How to Create a WOW Web Site

----Web Site Tutorial----

Internet Jargon Made Simple

1. Decide a Purpose for Your Site
2. Choose a Domain Name
3. Select a Web Hosting Service
4. Develop Your Website
5. Do It Yourselfer SEO & Submission

Are you a professional that wants a website but you’re tired of the techno mumbo-jumbo? Or are you a newbie and need a step-by-step guide to setting up your website like a professional. Perhaps, you are a do-it-yourselfer who wants a no-nonsense approach to setting up a website on a shoestring budget? If either of the above descriptions fit you, here’s a 5 step tutorial on setting up your website.

1. Decide a purpose for your site. Theme your site and give it a purpose. What are your expectations for your site? What do you want it to do? Will it be just a small representation of your company or profession online? Or do you want it to sell certain products and services? Will you use it as another marketing tool for your overall business endeavors? Do you want to sell digital products online as well as tangible items? Think carefully about this. The answer to these questions determines how you will develop your site.

2. Choose a Domain Name. Domain Names are important. Tie your name to the theme of your website. If your company is well established then a shortened version of your company’s name may be in order. But if you are still building a name, you may choose to pull your domain name from your market. For example, Microsoft.com, bankofamerica.com are names of the company.

But pruningyourtrees.com and dfwcarpetcleaning.com are market generated names. The dfwcarpetcleaning.com even includes the location in their name. It is a good idea for local businesses who only serve the neighborhood. Book authors could go for concept names – taken from their titles.

Register.com

For example, ChickenSoup.com or Richdad.com focused in on the short concept not the whole title. Practically, you go to a site that they sell domain names, you select a name and pay them. You will need a service called hosting (see below) to designate your domain name servers. I’ll explain that to you later.

Shoestring Tip: Stop paying retail prices for domain names. Purchase your domain name at one of the sites that sell domain names wholesale. We recommend http://www.godaddy.com for all your domain and hosting needs.

3. Select a Hosting Service. After purchasing your domain name and address you will need space on a web server for your website to reside on. It needs to reside on a powerful server so your website can accessed any time day or night.

“Web pages are designed and developed on a single computer but they must be transferred to a server, or host, so that they are available to the rest of the world over the Internet. A host is simply a computer that has a constant, high speed connection to the Internet. Hosting companies rent space on these machines.” –Web Wit Glossary http://www.clickeasywebsites.com/web-site-glossary.htm

There are web hosting companies all over the internet ready to provide low cost hosting for your new website. While looking and comparing consider that lots of hosting companies now offer companion software packages that you can use while hosting on their site.

Speaking practically, after selecting a web hosting company and purchasing your web space you are ready to get started. You will be given a control panel address to access on the web with a user name and password. Go there and explore.

Look up your stats page. Look for the Fantistico enabled section of your control panel. Again, this software will upload for you almost every kind of software tool you can think of. From shopping carts, chat rooms, forums, content management software to billing, templates, etc.

Shoestring Tip: Look for the control panels that are Fantistico enabled. This nifty piece of software installs the software to your site with the click of a button. Of course you do need to know some basic html to customize the software for your site. Need help with a basic HTML primer? Click here for a free ebook “Discovering Basic HTML to WOW Your Website!”

4. Develop your website. Now that you have your domain name and hosting service, you will need to create your website. Unless you are a skilled web designer or training to become a web designer/developer, I recommend using a template for your website. I love templates. It saves on development time and can give you a jumpstart on getting your website up in a matter of hours.

But before you get too happy about templates, remember it’s according to your customization skill level if it still looks professionally done. In the new millennium there are low-cost templates as well as high-priced ones available. Again your budget and skill level may determine your price range. Remember to check your hosting company for some good looking templates that comes free with your hosting package.

5. Submit your website to the search engines. Congratulations! You have developed your website in excellence. Now it’s time to let others know about your wonderful site by promoting it. Yes, you could pay a professional to submit your site. But since you have crossed the hurdle of developing your own site, why stop there.

Go ahead and submit your site to the search engines yourself. Here are some simple tips that will move your site up in the search engines:

• Determine Highly Searched Keywords Related to Your Site
• Register Keyword Rich Domain Names
• Target One Word for Each Page
• Use Your Targeted Keywords In Your Copy
• List your major keywords in the links back to your site
• Make your First 100 Words on the page Keyword Rich
• Insert Keyword into your title tag
• Insert Keywords Into Description Tag
• Name your page URLs so that they reflect what your site is about
• Don’t forget the ALT tag for keywords.

Shoestring Budget Tip: There are free web submission sites. But if you want to submit your site like the professionals consider the software tool WEB CEO.

Don’t stop there either. Continue to improve your website in the months to come. Use all the tips you have learned and make it not only the best it can be but make it profitable!
You have grown your business; now take it to another level through web site marketing. Develop your new website and enjoy watching your profits soar to new heights. Build it and prosper.
