piece (online or offline) should have a plan.
The other is the better you plan the greater
your web site's success will be. With a plan, you can ensure your
web site meets your needs, expectations and even cut the cost.
By planning thoroughly and providing your web designer the information
they need in the form needed, you help them build your site quickly.
Look at it this way; you have more to
gain than anyone in the success of your web site. Therefore, when
developing your web site's plan you should:
1.
Declare a purpose for your web site. Do you want to provide information
for clients and customers? Promote events or items for purchase?
2.
Select a Domain Name? (ie: www.yourname.com) Choose a short easy
to remember domain name. Your web site developer will check availability
and register your domain for you. Or you can go here for wholesale
domain names
3.
Gather a copy of your company logo, letterhead, (hard copy or
digital format) brochures, catalogs, etc. and mail or email them
to your web designer.
4.
Do some research on the Internet. Using several different search
engines, do searches using keywords that you think are best for
a site like yours. Bookmark the web sites that show in the top
2 or 3 positions with the keywords you have chosen.
You will gain important keyword knowledge,
ideas for the layout and content of your site. Take note of the
sites that rank high with search engines for your web designer
to work from to design effective meta tags and keyword content.
5.
Decide what and how many pages you would like to see on your site.
You might title your home page with your company's name or whatever
product you are offering. Some titles and links of other pages
might be "About Us", "Contact", "Products",
"Services", "FAQ", "Testimonies",
"Order Form", etc.
6
Write and format text to be on each page of site. All information
and text should be provided by the client and sent via CD or by
e-mail in Microsoft Word or Txt format.
7.
Select what photos you would like on your site and which pages
you want them on. Label them by name and where they will be located
on your site. Send digitized images (jpeg or gif) on a CD or send
via email or send photos for scanning.
8.
Choose any additional options for your site: Site-Map, Guestbook,
Links to Related Sites, Sound, Video or Music, Additional Forms,
Shopping Cart, Password Protection, etc.
